Before you Begin
Prepare your system
Installing an operating system can destroy data. If the Linux OS you are about to install is going to be the only operating system on this machine, and you intend to use the entire hard drive for this install, then skip to the next page.
If however, you are planning on having a dual boot system, then there are some important steps you must take prior to starting this install.
- Back up your current system and data
- Defragement your disk
- Run a disc partitioning application to free up at least 8 GB of space on your hard drive
- Configure your BIOS to boot from CD-ROM drive or
- Create a boot floppy from one of the images on disc 1 of the install discs
Have your install disc set ready.
